Everybody needs a morning ritual that leaves you feeling awake, refreshed, and productive. A ritual is just a consistent way of doing things so you can block overwhelm and lack of energy. Don’t have a morning routine right now? Keep reading so you can learn how to make one.
Why Is A Morning Routine Important
When we wake up in the morning, for some it is a groggy experience. Maybe you didn’t get enough sleep last night. Or you dread all your tasks in the day ahead. Either way, the solution to being ready to take on your day is having a routine in place.
A routine doesn’t have to be scary or rigid. It should be flexible and leave room for surprises. As a mom we know those pop up all the time.
A Morning Routine Sets You Up For Success
Humans are creatures of habit. Whether that’s a good habit or a bad habit is totally up to you. If you create a positive morning routine full of good habits that feed your mind, body, and soul, you are setting yourself up for success.
You will begin to feel more awake, refreshed, and ready to have a productive day. Your mind will be clear to make sound decisions and get things done. No more procrastinating and putting things off until the next day. Creating a routine is what will save you headache and stress. We deal with enough as is with children, work, and a household to run.
7 Things You Should Avoid Doing In The Morning
- Drinking coffee first thing in the morning
Your first drink of the day should be water. We can be a bit dehydrated after waking up. Water hydrates your body and acts as fuel for your cells to start working.
- Eating a sugary breakfast
Eat a healthy and balanced breakfast that includes a protein (egg or meat), fruit, and whole grain bread. Sugar gets broken down in the body quickly leaving us hungry and sluggish.
- Not taking enough time in the morning to relax
Your morning routine should include time for you to relax, not rush. Rushing through your morning will make you feel all over the place. Take this time to do something you enjoy and start your morning on the right foot.
- Not making your bed
Millionaires say they make their bed every morning. When you make your bed, you are less likely to hop back in it. This action sends signals to your brain that you did something good.
- Hitting that snooze button
Avoid hitting that snooze button especially more than once. We all have those days where we need to sleep in but limit it as much as possible.
- Skipping out on exercising
Get that 30-minute workout in sis. Exercise improves your mood, energy level, and digestion to keep you healthy. It does not have to be bone breaking intense. Go on a walk or jog in the morning to get your body moving.
- Not doing self-work
When you wake up and are carrying weight from the day before, you need to purge. Doing a brain dump and/or journaling (getting everything out your head and on paper) reduces stress and anxiety about the day ahead.
The Morning Ritual That Leaves You Feeling Awake, Refreshed, and Productive
- When you open your eyes take a moment to breath. 5-10 minutes is good for you to relax and focus.
- Brush your teeth. Brushing your teeth gets rid of that yucky feeling and will help you drink more water.
- Drink water. You can add fruits or vegetables to your water to make it taste better or have fat burning properties. I drink a lemon and apple cider vinegar water in the morning.
- Come up with an exercise routine and follow through at least 4 days a week. This has been instrumental in increasing my energy for the day with 4 children.
- Take a bath. Taking a shower is cool but relaxing in a nice hot bath after working out relaxes your muscles. Add some essential oils or Epsom salt to melt the stress away.
- While you are in your beautiful bath play some affirmations. Positive affirmations are statements that empower you to change negative thinking to positive thinking. I listen to affirmations on YouTube and created my own list of positive affirmations. You can download those here.
- Rub down in your favorite lotion, cream, or body oil. Smelling good improves your mood and makes you feel more feminine. My body oils are also made with natural herbs that help reduce stress and anxiety. It leaves my skin soft and my mind at ease. Purchase a bottle for yourself by clicking here.
- Eat a healthy and balanced breakfast. I do a 16:8 fast, which means I fast for 16 hours and eat within an 8 hour window (from 12-8pm). Eat a small meal such as omelets, oats, or even just a smoothie or protein shake.
- Schedule your top 3 tasks for the day. You need to know when you have blocks of free time. When you know your blocks of free time use this time to get things done. Do not pile on a lot, this just leads to overwhelm. Prioritize your top 3 tasks that will get you closer to completing your goal. Watch how you can create a schedule as a stay-at-home mom.
- Set boundaries for people to respect your time. Waking up early before everyone else can help you avoid others using up your time. Also you will get things done uninterrupted. Throughout the day though, you must let those around you, men, women, and children, know during these hours you are working. Teach them to respect that you are working hard to accomplish your goals to provide a better life for everyone.
Conclusion
Conclusion
A bonus tip for having a morning ritual that leaves you feeling awake, refreshed, and productive is to get 7-8 hours of sleep every night. You do not want to be sluggish and too tired to do this routine.
You want to include things that you love and bring you joy. Doing this will make your morning run smooth and put a positive spirit over you. Do exercises you enjoy, eat foods you enjoy, and nourish your mind and spirit the way you feel comfortable. This is my morning ritual that is meant to inspire you to create your own.
